Judge Sonia Lopez has dedicated her life to public service. She is a lifelong resident of Harris County, born and raised in the Eastex Jensen area and a product of Houston public schools. Sonia graduated from South Texas College of Law, The University of Texas at Austin and Houston's High School for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice (now High School for Law and Justice). Judge Lopez serves as the Associate Judge for the Harris County Civil Courts. Prior to that she was Associate General Counsel for the Lone Star College System District. She has also worked as the in-house labor attorney for the Houston Federation of Teachers, the largest union for teachers in the Houston area and served as Chief of Staff and District Director to State Representative Ana Hernandez.

Judge Lopez is active in the Eastex Jensen Super Neighborhood Council, an inaugural member of the Harris County Women's Commission and is a PTO member. For over a decade, she has been the volunteer Project Administrator for the National Hispanic Institute’s youth leadership program providing leadership training to hundreds of young Houstonians. Judge Lopez is married to Emmanuel Gonzalez and together they have a daughter, who is their pride and joy.
